ST. STEPHEN’S ART SHOW UNVEILS 2010 SHOW POSTER
Ceremony Given in Special Honor of New Mexican Artist, Robin Lee Makowski
MIAMI (February 4, 2010) – Each year, the artwork of one of the exhibiting artists from the St. Stephen’s Art Show is selected to be featured as the show’s main poster. Last night, festival committee members, volunteers, Coconut Grove patrons and members of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church gathered around the church’s Nepenthe Garden to celebrate the unveiling of this year’s chosen design. The artwork of Robin Lee Makowski, entitled “Bejeweled”, was selected as the show’s 2010 “Show Poster.”
“Out of 150 artists who submitted their artwork, we selected Robin’s ‘Bejeweled’ piece because of its bright bold colors and captivating canvas, which truly captures the spirit of St. Stephen’s ‘Art in the Heart’ theme,” says Bill Ritzi, Show Artistic Director. “Additionally, the poster has been donated to the church and will be auctioned off throughout the show for a $1 raffle ticket,” adds Lewis.
Makowski’s inspiration to create her bejeweled piece came from the heart of a banana tree that her husband was growing in the back yard. “One day I went to find my husband, who was working in the yard, and standing there, back-lit and glorious, was this jewel-colored bloom hanging from the tree, at its absolute peak of perfection.” says Makowski. “I am extremely honored and thrilled to be chosen as this year’s show poster. Celebrating the church’s centennial makes this year’s show even more special and I am looking forward to all of the great gems that this show has to offer,” adds Makowski.
The 22nd annual St. Stephen’s Art show is presented by St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, a 100 year old resident in Coconut Grove, which will also be celebrating its Centennial this year. The three-day long festival, taking place Saturday, February 13th through Monday, February 15th, 2010, is one of South Florida’s most popular outdoor arts festivals, which takes place on the grounds of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church (2750 McFarlane Road) in the heart of Coconut Grove, Florida.
For just a $1 entry fee, locals and visitors can enjoy artwork from more than 160 renowned artists, an international food court, children’s activity area, an authentic English tea room and musical entertainment. The shows proceeds help to raise funds for outreach programs in the Coconut Grove and Miami area. For additional information, visit www.artshowss.org
